The Random Scan of the Week!

After finding this scan, I'm tempted to put one day every week aside for a retro-Random Scan of the Week using my collection of Marvel Essentials and DC Showcases... I dare you not to chuckle at Magneto's over-the-top super-villain performance here! From Uncanny X-Men #18(March 1966)/Essential Uncanny X-Men Volume 1.

  1. Nothing more epic than a man with a big war helmet wearing short shorts proclaiming what men call him. Very classy Magneto, very classy indeed.

  2. There's just SO much from this scene that I'm sure we could pick apart and laugh at. That's one of the things I love the most about the 1960's style of writing... Besides the whole, "Men call me-- Magneto!" line, I had to laugh at the very first panel, where Mags is peeping out the window, stroking his HELMET! I mean, it's not like his chin is even covered!

  3. Does he still use...magnetic attraction? Or do people realize that it makes absolutely no sense in terms of his powers...

  4. HA! No I don't think he still does... Thankfully!

I don't know where Stan Lee pulled that one from! Back in the day, it seemed like Mags had 100 different ways to use his powers. I think he may have even battled Prof. X on the astral plane once... Mags sure did stretch what I'd consider acceptable usage of his powers back then...

  5. You're right X, Magneto did appear to have psychic powers in either his first or second appearance, I can't remember. He and Professor X met on the astral plane and then...something happened, haha. Yeah, it's been a long time since I read that stuff...

  6. I thought so Marc! I haven't read that first Essential X-Men in the longest time, so some of that stuff blends together...
